It all began in a small village in Emilia-Romagna, Italy, in the kitchen of Nonna Rosa. Her home was always filled with the warm aroma of fresh pasta drying on wooden racks and ragù simmering slowly on the stove. Neighbors would gather, children would linger, and every meal was a celebration. She taught her children that food is love made visible — and that a well-set table can heal anything.
Her son, Marco Benedetti, grew up with flour on his hands and a passion in his heart. He trained in Bologna's finest kitchens, learning the discipline of classical Italian cooking while carrying his mother's recipes and time-honored techniques in his back pocket. In 2008, Marco brought those traditions across the Alps to Zürich, opening Osteria Nove on Langstrasse — a small corner of Italy in the heart of Switzerland.
Today, the restaurant is a true family affair. Marco's daughter Sofia runs the front of house with the same warmth and grace that once filled Nonna Rosa's dining room, while Marco commands the kitchen with unwavering dedication. Every dish that leaves the pass tells the story of three generations — of hands that kneaded, hearts that cared, and a family that believed the best things in life are shared around a table.
OUR PHILOSOPHY"La cucina è l'arte di trasformare la storia in sapore"
"Cooking is the art of transforming history into flavor"
We believe the best food comes from the simplest approach — start with the finest ingredients, honor traditional techniques, and add a generous measure of love. We source our flour from a family mill in Emilia-Romagna, our olive oil from a small estate in Puglia, and our produce from local Swiss farms. Every ingredient has a story, and every dish is made with the kind of care that only comes from knowing exactly where your food begins its journey.
Head Chef & Founder
Born in Parma, trained in Bologna, and now calling Zürich home. Marco brings over 25 years of culinary experience to every dish he creates. His philosophy is rooted in respect — for the ingredients, for the traditions, and for the guests who trust him with their evening. When he's not in the kitchen, you'll find him at the local markets, hand-selecting the day's produce.
General Manager
Growing up in the restaurant, Sofia developed an innate understanding of hospitality that no school could teach. She knows the regulars by name, remembers their favorite wines, and ensures that every guest feels like family from the moment they walk through the door. Her attention to detail and genuine warmth are what make Osteria Nove more than just a restaurant.
Every recipe stays true to its roots. No shortcuts, no compromises. We cook the way Nonna Rosa taught us, because some things are perfect just the way they are.
We partner with local farmers and reduce waste at every step. From composting to seasonal menus, we believe that caring for our planet is as essential as caring for our guests.
Our restaurant is more than a place to eat — it's a place to belong. We host neighborhood gatherings, support local artisans, and believe that the best meals bring people together.
Whether it's your first visit or your hundredth, there's always a seat at our table.
